Humour
in Life.
When
I was a small kid, we kids would gather around the playground and then at the
designated time, would all run around it as fast as we could. The child who ran
around the most number of times won.
That
sounds like a great game. But who won? We didn’t know!
Do
you ever get so caught up in your goal that you forget to enjoy the process?
It's the process of doing things that's important.
Once,
I used to sit at the bedside of a dying friend, while he reviewed his life. It
was sad when he looked back and realized he had missed opportunities in his
life because he was focused on the wrong things.
Oscar
Wilde said, "Life
is too important to be taken seriously."
Our lives are measured by
many things. Career, Success, Relationships, Education, Families and Wealth.
But each of these is connected to how we live our life. We are all guilty of
focusing on the wrong things now-and-again.
Look for humour.
A headline in The Hindu once said, "Long life dies at low cost" Now that's funny, it was about dyes.

Had
I not been looking, I would have never seen it. Keep your eyes open for humor
in your life. Laughing and making people laugh; I presume, is a healthy way of
spending your free time. I am attempting just that in all that I write in these
mails.
There is something to be said for people
laughing at you. Sometimes people laugh at me not realizing that I was getting
the result from them that I was looking for. For example, let's say that I hit
my thumb with a hammer. Now, to an average person it would appear that I had an
unfortunate accident although it would not prevent them from laughing at me.
They would say something like, "Why did you do that?" and I, not
wanting to appear to be a complete buffoon, would answer, "I thought
someone would laugh at me." This always worked well in making life easier
to live.
Now, think of a situation, where in I relate
an incident about a fellow saikorian hitting himself on the thumb with a
hammer, we could always laugh at that incident, but the saikorian himself may
not be as amused. It depends on how focused he is about humour.
Have you ever slipped and fallen on a banana
peel or wet floors? Have you ever bumped your head or stubbed your toe? What
did the people around you do? They laughed at you didn't they? Of coarse they
did, it's only natural.
Oh the things we do to make people laugh. A
very good saikorian friend of mine was once down on his luck, stressed in life
and was feeling pretty ding dang blue. I thought it would be nice to cheer him
up so I wrote an article about a real life funny incident at school, in which
he was a part of it. It was meant purely to cheer him up. I knew he would
appreciate the humor. But his balance of focus tilted the other way. He turned
red as red can be, fortunately we were separated by the Atlantic
Ocean and many miles. He picked up his phone and called me all
sorts of names with a slang we find in American movies. I cannot print all that
was said, but an example is M***** F*****. I just listened staring at the wall
for all time and then became so overwhelmed with the jocularity of the
situation that I laughed aloud at him. I totally forgot about that incident,
but that saikorian crossed The Atlantic and many miles, recently and complained
to our common saikorian friends here.
You see, it's all about getting folks to
laugh. No, let me rephrase that, it's all about me getting folks to laugh.
Sorry Ramaiah(864) and a big Thank you for being my BAKRA of the year.
