Prison reforms in A.P

My constant efforts to fish out the real information from the Government has yielded some results. My RTI application No. AP/GO/HYD/ 813794 dated 15-04-2012 fished out this G.O. A lesson to learn

It was a Saturday night and was raining hard, so the movie was cancelled. We had our dinner. Saturday night dinners, we had a choice those days. We can choose either tiffin or the usual rice meal. So, I and Kumar (714) would team up and take either of them between us and share. We enjoyed both. Hot upma and sambar, OOOOmph, my mouth is watering even now.

But that night, we were all bored. We decided to go and pluck some ground nuts from the fields just beside our farm. Four of us, took two pillow covers and went out for the kill. Many others offered to come but more than four is a crowd, so we promised to bring the farm fresh groundnuts to the house and we planned to have a feast. In the mean time the ‘ground team’, the boys left at the house would make arrangements to boil the ground nuts.

A Short Love Story

This is a mail sent by my sister's daughter on the occasion of our parents' 60th  wedding anniversary today, 15th May 2012.
My Dad can be contacted at tvnrao34@yahoo.com

1952. In the wee hours before daybreak in May that year, a young man, son of a respected school teacher accompanied by a lovely young girl, the only daughter of a well to do farmer walked into a railway station in a small rural town by the banks of the Krishna in Andhra Pradesh. He was nineteen. She, sixteen. They carried between them two small suitcases containing all their belongings. A few cotton saris and a couple of neatly pressed 'bush shirts' and trousers. As they nervously paced the platform waiting for their train to arrive, a stern-looking man clad in a dhoti and black coat approached them. "Where are you going?", the stranger demanded. Before the youth could answer, he turned towards the bewildered girl and said, "Where do your parents live? I'm going to take you back home. Running away with this boy, are you?!"

Revenge by Rebirth

As part of my duties, now I am in a place previously known as Dandakaranya, where Lord Rama had spent much of his exile. But lately, it has become famous for its unending availability of iron ore and unending number of Maoists, who occasionally call on district collectors and take them hostage. This is a place where one can feel the nature in its true form. Thick jungle, with huge trees, birds of all hues happily chirping. The local people are intelligent, hard working and a happy lot.
But man has made his impact, destroyed a large part of the jungle and made quarries, offices and townships. Don’t mistake me for supporting the Maoist line, but that is a fact that cannot be denied. Be it for development or greed.

I am put up in one of the houses in the township. It’s a two bed roomed house and must have been built many decades ago. And it must not have been in use for a very long time. The window panes were broken; plumbing was in a bad shape. But getting a roof over your head at such a place was a blessing indeed. So, I got everything redone even got the window panes of the bottom half darkened for privacy, and moved in with the little belongings for a bachelor life. As I am not new to such a life, I settled down well and had a sound sleep the first night.
